Dear Sir:

This report is being submitted pursuant to Byron Technical Specification 6.9.2 to document the inoperability of the 30' _ Wind Speed meteorological instrumentation channels in the Control Room for a period greater than 7 days (Technical Specifi-cation 2.3.3.4). Control Room indication of the 30' Wind Speed was lost on 5-27-85 and work is currently in progress to restore operability.

The actual 30' Wind Speed instrumentation on the Byron r.ieteorological tower is operable, however, the Control Room chart recorder and process computer point is inoperable. The malfunction of the two Control Room indications appears to be due to problems with the communication links between the tower instrumentation and the Control Room readouts.

- Nuclear Work Request B18886 has been written to track the repairs of the inoperable

' Control Room recorder.

It should be noted that 30' wind speed data is available at the Station using the Offsite Dose Calculation System Demand Polling program (prime computer link) should a remote indication be needed.

This report was prepared by Brent Scott, IIcalth Physicist.
