Subject:

Maine Yankee Inservice inspection and Inservice Testing Programs for the Third Inspection Interval Gentlemen:

_ Please permit this letter to serve as notice of a 30 day delay in the submission ~-

d of the Maine Yankee Inservice Testing and Inservice Inspection Programs for the. third I

ten-year inspection interval. Both programs, as per 10CFR50.55a, are required to be i

updated at 10-year intervals to reflect the latest edition and addenda of the ASME-a code in additinn to pertinent NRC guidance. Both programs require submission to the NRC for review.

Currently, Maine Yankee is in the final stages of implementing modifications to-these programs.

These modifications and the internal Maine Yankee reviews and approvals will be completed by. January 28, 1993.

Correspondingly, we will submit bothcompletedprogramsatthattime.

In the interim, however, Maine Yankee will continue to rely on the approved

'second interval inservice Inspection Program. Since there are no refueling outages scheduled until August 1993, the reliance on the second interval program during this' i;

interval has no impact.. -With respect to the Inservice Testing Program,;however, t.

Maine Yankee will perform the most conservative elements of that program,-as required i

during January 1993, resulting from either the approved second -interval or proposed -

l' third interval programs. Performance of these surveillances will ensure compliance with either program during the period December 28, 1992, to January 28, 1993.

Please contact us if you have questions or comments regarding this delay.

Very truly yours, N
