SUBJECT:

CONTACTS WITH UTILITIES AND CONTRACTORS CONCERNING DRUG ALLEGATIONS This memorandum responds to your request of March 28, 1983, regarding

.i the results of selected Region II utt11 ties' and contractors' efforts to establish the validity of the subject allegations.

t On March 1,1983, Region II contacted by letter each of three utilities-1; and two' contr' actors referenced in the-enclosures to your memorandum-r of January 31, 1983.- As of this date, we have received responses, either

i telephonically or in writing, from each of the respective utilities and u3 contractors contacted.

In all cases, the licensees (utilities) and contractors took imediate action to determine whether the named individuals were still in their-employ, or. attempted.to obtain relevant information concerning current employers.

In cases where it was determinea that the named individuals were either not employed, or no longer employed by._the licensee or contractor, there was no information given that would.' indicate these.:

individuals were involved with the use of illicit drugs.

In only one i case was it determined that a named individual was currently employed. ;

by the Region II licensee.-

In this case, the individual was immediately i

removed. from sensitive work areas pending further investigation by the licensee which included:

i Search of person and personal items on site.

Search of personal vehicle on site.

the natural fallout.of this rulemaking would entail periodic reviews
