This is in response to your lette. dated March 15, 1985, in which you e

requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information' Act (FOIA), copies of l

five specified reports and all records related to an accident on January 3 1961, at the SL-1 reactor in Idaho and an event at the Ginna nuclear power plant in 1982.

s With regard to the specified WASH reports, we have been informed by the staff that reports WASH-1520. WASH-740, and WASH-1250 are available for purchase at prices of $4.50, $4.75, and $9.50, respectively, from the NRC/ Government Printing Office (GPO) Sales Program. The so-called 1964 Update of WASH-740 was never completed. There is, however, in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) in Washington, DC, seven notebook binders containing preliminary calculations, correspondence with the then Joint

Committee on Atomic Energy, and other records relating to the planned update.

These notebooks are designated "WA5F-740 Update "

The NRC also does not have US-AEC-ID0-19-202; the staff suggested that you telephone the Oak Ridge National Laboratory at 615-576-1306 to inquire about its availability. In the event you wish to submit an FOIA request for that document, you may address your request to the official identified below.

Washington, DC 20585 The NRC has already made the records concerning the SL-1 incident available for public inspection and copying at the PDR in response to a previous FOIA request (FOIA-79-ll2). The records are filed in PDR folder F01A-79-ll2 under the name of Hunter. We have enclosed a copy of the appendix that lists the three records that are maintained in that folder.

Also, the NRC has made numerous records related to the Ginna event publicly

available. Two major reports on the Ginna event (NUREG-0916 and NUREG-0909) are available for purchase from both the NRC/GP0 Sales Program and the PDR.

We suggest that you first order copies of these two major reports and,then, 1
