AR LINGTON, T EXAS 700118064 JAN 1 19T CORRECTED Wood River Medical Center ATTN: R. Dennis Davis,-M.D.

Dear Dr. Davis:

SUBJECT:

AUTHORIZATION-TO PERFORM MEDICAL-PROCEDURES USING BYPRODUCT MATERIAL This letter refers to a converstion between you and Mr. A. Bill Beach and

  • Ms. Linda Kasner of the NRC Region IV office on Decemoer 31, 1992. The subject of the conversation involved a concern related to our letter of December 18, 1992, and your continued authorization to use byproduct material for medical use.

As was explained by Mr. Beach and Ms. Kasner, the purpose of our letter of December 18 was not to require that you withold necessary emergency medical care from your patients. Rather,-the intended message was that if a change in ownership had occurred, as an NRC licensee you are required to request and.

obtain a license for the new legal entity. NRC acknowledges that under certain conditions emergency medical examinations are needed and, under specific conditions, NRC will not prohibit emergency patient care.

Given the current circumstances, you may provide emergency medical care. We have discussed this matter with the' Director, Office of Nuclear Materials

. Safety and Safeguards and have received his concurrence. However, as was discussed during the aforementioned. telephone conversation, you should provide the response (s) requested in our December 18 letter to the NRC Region IV.

office in order to resolve this problem expeditiously.

Sincerely, Original signed by A. B. Beach for '
