- NMSS POLICY AND PROCEDURES LETTER l-3 I am providing for your information and use the enclosed copy of the recently revised NMSS Policy and Procedures Letter 1-3 on handling requests for 10 CFR 2.206 actions. NRC__ requirements in 10 CFR 2.206 provide that any person may file a petition with the NRC to institute a proceeding to modify, suspend, or

= revoke a license or for other appropriate action. The petitions are generally prompted by the petitioner's concern that a licensee is not complying with NRC -

. requirements and, therefore, prompt enforcement action is warranted to ensure compliance. Consequently, it is imperative that we handle the petitions promptly ana in accordance' with the procedures described in the enclosed Policy and-Procedures Letter. Although NMSS does not receive a large number of such-petitions, the petitions may increase as a result of greater public involvement and awareness of our programs, such as the Site Decommissioning
