January 7, 1993 Docket No. 50-461 LICENSEE: Illinois Power Company FACILITY: Clinton Power Station

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

Of DECEMBER 17, 1992, TELEPHONE CALL REGARDING IMPLEMENTATION OF EROSION / CORROSION MONITORING PROGRAM PER GENERIC LETTER 89-08 (TAC NO. M73469)

By letter dated July 21, 1989, Illinois Power Company responded to Generic Letter 89-08. The licensee stated that while a program to monitor erosion /

corrosion in single phase high-energy carbon steel piping systems was in place, it was not supported by formal procedural controls. Their letter included a commitment to implement a program having formalized procedures and administrative controls by December 31, 1989.

In a letter dated December 3, 1990 (J. Hickman to F. Spangenberg), the staff found the licensee's response acceptable contingent upon their commitment to formalize the procedural controls as discussed above. During a telephone conversation on December 17, 1992., the Supervisor - Licensing Operations of Illinois Power Company informed me that the above commitment had been met and that a formalized erosion / corrosion monitoring program was in existence at the Clinton Power Station.

This action closes the staff's activities on TAC No, M73469.
