Subject:
Concrete fill (Drumming) Room Fire Protection System Gentlemen:
Maine Yankee currently plans to use the area in the Fuel Building s town as the Drumming Area) for transient storage of bulk Class III combustiole wastes (contaminated RCP Lube 011) awaiting final movement into the Mixed Waste Building.
The installation of a wet-pipe sprinkler system in this area to mitigate the effects of a fire in this material was.noted as a corrective action in Maine -Yankee's response (Reference (c)) to the Notice of Violation associated with Fire Protection Procedures (Reference (b)).
Maine Yankee is currently preparing a design change package for installation of-this system.
In light of unanticipated delays in the preparation of this design change package, a delay' in the completion date to April 30,1993, is necessary.
Maine Yankee has implemented compensatory measures in lieu of the wet-pipe suppression system. Bulk Class III liquid combustibles (contaminated RCP Lube 011) will not_ be stored in the area until such time as the fixed suppression system is operable.
