Dear Dr. Snyder:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (TMI-2)

Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 System Description for the Dewatering System for the TMI-2 Defueling Canisters Attached for your information is the System Description for the Dewatering System for the TMI-2 Defueling Canisters. This system, located at the northeast end of Fuel Pool "A", is designed to remove and filter the water from the submerged defueling canisters and provides a transfer path to the Defueling Water Cleanup System for water processing. The Dewatering System also provides an inert cover gas for canister shipping.

As addressed in the Early Defueling Safety Evaluation Report (SER), a dewatering system will also be located inside the reactor vessel. This in-vessel system allows the dewatering of canisters prior to removal from the reactor vessel. Due to the uncomplicated design of this in-vessel dewatering system, GPU Nuclear currently does not intend to issue a system description.

Sincerely, N
