Subject: Inspection No. 50-20/92-02

An announced inspection of your reactor operations and radiation protection programs was

conducted by Messrs. Thomas Dragoun and Stephen Holmes of this office on December 1-3,

1992, of activities authorized by NRC License No. R-37. A discussion of our Gndings was held

with you and other members of your staff by Messrs. Dragoun and Holmes at the conclusion

of this inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection included previously identined items, treatment room

modiGcations, facility stafGng, control of experiments, safety system surveillances, shipment of

waste, and implementation of the radiation protection program. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and represcatative records, interviews

with personnel, and observations by the inspector.

The inspectors noted the excellence of the technical reviews of new experiments and of the

radioactive waste shipping program. The other program areas were determined to be acceptable,

although two areas identined in the enclosed report require additional review during future

inspections. Within the scope of this review, no safety concerns or violations of regulatory

requirements were observed.
