MEMO from:

COURTNEY W. SMYTH TMIl LICENSING MANAGER July 27, 1985 5211-85-1270 T0:

Owen Rothberg US NRC FROM:

C. W. Smyth Attached are three procedures used at THI-1 that relate to CRD lead screw uncoupling:

1.

Procedure 1504-12 Rev 6 is the preferred procedure referenced by Procedure 1501-1 Rev 8 (partial copy attached).

This procedure rotates the CRDM torque tube and does not disengage the lead screw nut locking spring.

2.

Procedure 1504-1 Rev 3 is used in-lieu of 1504-12 only under special circumstances on an as-needed basis. This procedure has not been used at TMI-1 since 1977.*

This completes GPUN's action as discussed in our teleconference call on July 26, 1985.
