50-328 My letter to you dated March 3,1981, comitted TVA to subnit a report on the operatinc experience of the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant unit 1 purge / vent valves before startup following the first refueling cutage of unit 1.
As requested by your staff, the report will include an engineering evaluation of the various aspects that ensure the niiability of the purge valves' cloeure under accident conditions. This evaluation will take into account reliability, ALARA, operational safety, valve size for purging and/or venting, operability evaluation, operability testing, etc. The purpose of the evaluation will be to define the justification for additional purge / vent time that say be required and to provide assurance of adequate safety a:argin for the purge / vent valves' reliability under accident conditions.
