50-424 and 50-425 APPLICANT: Georgia Power Company FACILITY:

SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF DESIGN DOCUMENTATION REVIEW HELD FEBRUARY 7, 1985 i
On February 7,1985, the staff and its representatives met with the applicant and Westinghouse at the Westinghouse offices in Monroeville, PA to discuss documentation for the pressurizer surge line.
Participants are listed in Enclosure 1. contains background information and the Table of Contents from the design report for the pressurizer surge line.
The staff found that the design report did not contain a calculation illustrating that minimum wall thickness was met. Westinghouse indicated that this calculation or a clear reference to it would be included in the final design report.
The staff also indicated that a section needs to be added to the final design report which describes how assurance was obtained that loadings (e.g., earthquake spectra) identified in the design specification (e.g.,
955211) were used in the evaluations to show that Code limits are not exceeded. contains a copy of the load combination calculation.
i The staff indicated that Westinghouse should also include in the final design report a discussion of the evaluation of:
l 1.
Inclusion of out-of-roundness effects in fatigue calculations.
2.
Coupling of piping systems in analyses.
3.
Use of stress indices, if any, which are not included in the Code.
4.
Use of combinations of generic systems analyses with Vogtle-specific analyses.

Also regarding the " Stress Report for Class 1, 6-inch and Larger Gate Valves," the owner verification sheet does not clearly indicate that the applicant had reviewed the report or if Westinchouse had been authorized to conduct the review of the report for the applicant.
The applicant will provide written clarification on this question.
