Nuclear Regulatory Commission One Whito Flint North Building 11555 Rockvillo Pike Rockvil10, MD 20555 Door Chairman Solin It is my understanding that an application has boon filed with the Commission for the export of irradiated fuol from the Shoreham nuclear power plant in New York to France for reprocessing.
Although this mattor has yet to reco1vo widospread public attention, I believe it is one of the more significant regulatory issues that the Commission will considor in the coming years.
The Commission's ruling on this reprocessing application could have major implications for U.S.
policy on many critical issues, including nuclear non-proliforation and wasto disposal.
Thoroforo I request that the Commission hold a full oral hearing on the Shoreham application.
An exhaustive and open review of this application is nooded both to ensure a sound decision and to maintain public confidenco.
