Dear Ms. Shillinglaw:

MAILROOM 12G8 YT#0920245 1 am respondmg to your letter of November 24, 1992 in which you asked if people who wrote commonts regarding the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) proposal to amend 10 CFR Part 72, " Licensing Requirements for the Independent Storage of Spent Nuclear fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste,"

will receive a personal response and notification of publication of the final rule in the fetd pral Register.

The NRC will mail an individual copy of the federal Reaister notice which publishes the final rule to each person who commented on the 10 CFR Part 72 rule. The Federal _Btqjstfr notice will include a summary of comments from interested parties, the NRC response to those comments, and the text of the final rule. In addition, the NRC will issue a press release which local newspapers could use for publication.

With respect to your interest in improving the local community's involvement in the regulatory process, the NRC supports making the regulatory process and technical information more accessible to the public. If a need for an informational meeting is identified, the NRC would certainly consider discussing specified topics with interested members of. the community and local government.

I hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or comments, contact me or Anthony T. Gody, Jr., Project Manager (301) 504-1387. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely, ,
