Shield insert
Dear Mr. MacDonald:
On December 14, 1992, we received revision 7 of Certificate of Compliance 9176 permitting the use of an optional shield insert fabricated in accordance with Pacific Nuclear supplement dated Gvober 23, 1992. Unfortunately, the: sketches of the removable shield insert which were submitted along with that supplement did not indicate an optional shield insert,;d. Attached for your review are additional sketches illustrating an optional one inch thick lid for the shield insert.- In addition, we have added a drain port which also was not indicated on the initial sketches. It is proposed that.the shield insert could be used with or without the optional lid depending on the shielding requirements of the cask contents. Regardless of which shielding configuration is required, the maxirnum payload weight of the cask would never be allowed to exceed the licensed payload weight of 20,000 lbs. -.With a shield -insert weight of approximately 10,600 lbs. and an optional-shield lid. weight. of approximately 1,055 lbs., the weight of any additional cask contents is limited to 9,400 lbs. whw used with the shield insert alone or 8,345 lbs. when the shield insert is used - in conjunction with the optional lid. 300010 l 9212300166 921221 'I[ {DR ADOCK_07109176 I ~ PDR h Plant Services Group.Drookside Office PL;k No.1 Harcison Way, Suite 209 Cof umbia.
