SUBJECT:- INSPECTION IREPOltT NOS. 50 277/92-31 AND 50-278/92-31
This letter transmits the report of the inspection conducted by Mr. J. E. lleall and other NitC -
personnel, during November 16-20, 1992, at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in
Delta, Pennsylvania. Mr. Beall discussed the findings with Mr. Powers and members of
your staff at the conclusion of the inspection on November 20,1992.
This inspection was directed toward areas important to public health and safety. The
'
inspection reviewed the adequacy of the design and procedures used to mitigate a fire
postulated in the cable spreading room directly below the combined control room for both
Peach Bottom units. The intent was to gain a high confidence that the operators and
equipment would successfully respond to a cable spreading room fire and safely shutdown the
plant. The inspection consisted of selective examinations of design calculations,-installed
equipment, operating procedures, interviews with personnel, and observations by inspectors.

Overall, the inspectors concluded that the Peach Bottom design and procedures were adequate
to achieve safe shutdown following a cable spreading room fire.
