January 7, 1980 70 vg0, Mr. Samuel J. Chilk Secretary Nuclear Regulatory Commission Matomic Building 1717 H Street, N.W.

Room 1135 Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Chilk:

The Governor's Office of Planning and Research is analyzing land use around existing California nuclear facilities and may sponsor related legislation.

I understand that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission defines low population zones around existing plants (Title 10, CFR, Part 100, Section 100.3) and requires maps of such zones f rom applicants for operational permits in their final analysis safety report. It would help our analysis if you would send copies of the maps of low population zones around the follow-ing nuclear power plants: Humboldt Bay, Rancho Seco, San Onofre, and Diablo Canyoa.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Sincerely yours, Karen Edson l l
