SUBJECT: Haddam Neck Inspection 92-20

This letter transmits the report of the resident safety inspection conducted by hiessrs. W.

Raymond and P. Habighorst of this office during the period October 5 to November 14, at

the Haddam Neck Plant, Haddam Neck, Connecticut. The report covers activities authorized

'

by NRC License No. DPR-61. This inspection was focused on issues important to public

health and safety. Preliminary Hndings were discussed with htr. J. Stetz of your staff at the

conclusion of the inspection.

During this report period, we found Haddam Neck was operated in a safe and conservative-

manner. No violations were identified. A conservative approach to safe plant operation was

demonstrated by the response to degraded hydraulic hoses in the auxiliary feedwater system.

The maintenance and engineering support applied to resolve this issue was aggressive and

effective.
