/N Effects of a High Energy Piping System Break Inside of Containment Q)

In accordance with our previous verbal commitment, Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) has developed the attached status report on the subj ect SEP Topic.

The study resulting in this report was based on criteria designating a High Energy Pipe System as one which has a design temperature of 200*F or greater and a design pressur a of 275 psig or greater. Areas addressed include Plant Shutdown Systems, Breaks at Penetration Assemblies, and Interaction Matrices, which were prepared on a system basis showing the potential interactions between the source of each postulated break point and the selected target.

Efforts are in progress to complete this evaluation in accordance with the methods described in the attached report.

Significant additional efforts will be necessary to respond to the Staff position transmitted via Ref erence (1).

We will keep you advised of our progress.
