Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No.1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Generic Letter 83-28, Item 4.5.3 Gentlemen:

By letter, dated February 21, 1985, the NRC forwarded the Safety Evaluation (SE)onWCAP-10271totheWestinghouseOwnersGroup(WOG).

On March 13, 1985, you requested Beaver Valley 1 to provide a description of the specific implementation plan with respect to the SE on WCAP-10271.

We have reviewed the SE and concluded that, at this time, we will not request any Technical Specification changes on the reactor trip system (RTS)analogchannels. When more infomation is available on the NRC's position of quarterly testing for ESF analog channels, our intent is to submit a Technical Specification change consistent with the SE on WCAP-10271 for RPS and ESF analog channels.

The basis for this conclusion is the majority of RTS analog channels provide input to the engineered safety feature (ESF) functions, therefore, few RTS analog channels would benefit from the quarterly test frequency.

In addition, the change to quarterly test intervals on RTS analog channels would require annotating the RTS specifications to reference the more restrictive ESF specifications which may add unnecessary confusion.

If you have any questions regarding this infomation, please contact my office.

Very t uly yours, f
