The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff recently received the final letter l
report entitled " Comments on the Department of Energy Report ' Neutron Moisture Monitoring'(NMM) and Moisture Contents in the Green' River, Utah, UMTRA Disposal Cell'," which completed the scope of work for the technical i
assistance contract FIN L-1411.
I would like to convey my appreciation'for-the excellent work performed for this scope of work, and Pacific Northwest l
Laboratory's effective management-in completing the contract on schedule.
Mr. Paul.Thorne and Mr, Michael Fayer provided a high-quality, technically-detailed product in a timely and responsive manner. The quality of this j
report reflects the obvious. thoroughness and detail. that Mr. Thorne and-j Mr. Fayer put into their review and comment of the' Department of Energy l' _
document.
I was-particularly pleased with the extra-effort that was put forth in outlining specific technical recommendations that- 00E could-implement to l
improve their.present monitoring program at the Green River site. These recommendations will no doubt-generate future discussions between_the NRC l
staff and the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial ActionL(UMTRA)- Project Office, which will ultimately result in a more effective use of Neutron Moisture Measurements at all UMTRA sites.
I am very pleased with PNL's perfor:r.ance for this scope of work, and hope this j
high level of excellence will continue in future NRC contracts.
