L uly /jg Sub.iect: REPORTED LOST RADIOGRAPHY DEVICE CONTAINING 55 CURIES OF IRIDIUM-192 A radiography device containing 55 curies of Iridium-192 is missing from the back of a truck used t.o transport the device from a work site at the l
Port Authority in Camden. New Jersey to the licensee's Pennsauken facility.
The device was missing wnen the truck returned to the facility at 9:00 pm-on November 29. 1979 Licensee representatives believe the source was inst and not stolen.
The r.ource was secured within the shielded device.
Maximum radiation levels et the surface of the device are reported to be 45 milliroentgens per hour.
The licensee ' notified local police of the loss shortly after 9:00 pm on November'29, The media was informed of the loss by the local police and l
.the story has been carried by a Philadelphia radio station.
A press release will be issued by Region 1.
The state of New Jersey was notified by Region 1 at 2:50 am on November 30.
Region I has dispatched two inspectors to aid in the search for the missing Iridium-192.
HRC Region 1 (Philadelphia) first learned of this event via a radio news story and confirmed it during a phone conversation with the licensee at 7:5C am en November 30. 1979.
