Suner Station Failed Engine Thrust Bearing Part 21 Report Gentlemen:
_ A failure of the crankshdt thrust tsarino has occurred on one of the two Emergency Olesel Generators of our zanufacture at the South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., Suoner Station.
Preliminary evaluation reveals the most likely cause of failure to be the omission of plugs in the oil supply system for the bearing.
These plugs prevent diversion of oil from the bearing to t.be sump'in the bearing housing.
Additional evaluation is being undertaken to permit explanation of apparent successful operation of the unit during shop tests in our factory prior to shipment. We will keep you advised of these evaluations.
Other units shipped which have sircilar assemblies are:

2) 2 Public Service of Nw Hampshire uni s shipped to Seabrook Unit One 3) 2 SNUPPS units shipped to Unica Electric for Callaway Unit One 4) 2 Duquesne Light Co. units for Beaver Valley Two in storage j

We are in the process of developing an inspection procedure to permit-verification that the plugs are prcperly installed in these additional units.
