Dear Mr. Schnell:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. M. P. Huber

and J. F. Smith of this office on November 2 through 20, 1992.

The inspection included a review of activities for your callaway

Nuclear Power Plant. At the conclusion of the inspection, the

findings were discussed with those members of your staff

identified in the enclosed report.

The areas examined during the inspection are identified in the

report. These areas consisted primarily of a review of the '

callaway Nuclear Power Plant's program for inservice testing of

pumps and valves established in response to Generic Letter 89-04 ,

and of the activities regarding the performance of check valves.

'Aithin this area, the inspection consisted of a selective

examination of procedures and representative records,

observations, and interviews with personnel.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the

course of this inspection. However, as a result of this

inspection,-the callaway engineering staff has committed-to-

update the testing of certain valve position indicating lights on

motor control centers.

In accordance with 10 CPR 2.790 of.the_ Commission's regulations,

a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will.be

placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
