T A. ; 40. A-17 Enclosed is a copy of the Draft Report on Phase I of Generic Task No. A-17, Systems Interaction in Nuclear Power Plants, which was pregred by Sandia Laboratories.
You are requested to review this report and make your coments to the Task Manager on or before January 22, 1980.
In order to assist you in your review of this report, a meeting has been arranged for January 8,1980 at which Sandia Laboratories representatives will be present to discuss the work done by the Laboratory and to answer questions that you may have about the report. The meeting will be held in Room P-118 (Phillips Building) from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
There are two parts to the NRC staff review:
part one has to do with the technical correctness of the work performed by Sandia Laboratories keeping in mind the scope of the task; part two has to do with the NRC staff technical decisions regarding whether or not the Standard Revi% Plan needs to be revised based on the results disclosed in the Draft Report.
At the January 8,198t meeting, we intend to discuss these review goals more fully.
Along with this draft report are a large number of drawings which graphically depict the detailed fault trees which are referenced in the Draft Report.
Some of you may not find the time nor feel the need to review all of these detailed fault trees.
However, there may be some very specific branch of a fault tree in which you may have a special interest.
The Task Manager will retain a number of copies of the fault tree that you can use for this purpose.
Also, a number of copies of the complete set of 90012285
2-of fault trees will be distributed to specific technical review branches which are deemed to be most involved in systems interaction.
In this way, we believe that we can make information easily available to everyone and yet not have to reproduce a very large volume of paper, The goals of our review of the Draft Report are:
(1) provide information to Sandia Laboratories by February 1,1980 on how the report should be revised before it is issued in its final form by April 1,1980;(2) provide input to the Task Manager so that a NUREG can be issued by A 11 15, 1980.
Obviously, in order to meet a target date of April 15, 1980 for issuance of a NUREG, your recommendations for revising the Standard Review Plan, and implementation of any design changes, need to be known at least by Fe ary 1, 1980,sothattheserecommendationscanbeacteduponbyNRCstaffmanagement[
