r i[4 Federal Emergency Management Agency Washington, D.C. 20472 JUN - 7 S85 MEMORANDUM FOR:
Edward L. Jordan Director Division of Emergency Preparedness and Engineering Response Office of Inspection and Enforcement Nucl ar Regulatory Commission FROM:
icarVY.
Assistant Associate Director Office of Natural and Technological Hazards Programs
SUBJECT:
Remedial Exercise for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Attached are two copies of the exercise evaluation report of the offsite radiological emergency preparedness remedial exercise conducted on April 10, 1985. This remedial exercise was conducted to correct the two Category A deficiencies cited at the Peach Bottom full-participation offsite radiological emergency preparedness exercise conducted on October 17, 1984.
The deficien-cies cited in Pennsylvania were: two Lancaster County municipalities, Drumore and Little Britain Townships, did not allow Federal observation of their operations; and two York County municipalities, Fawn Grove Borough and Fawn Grove Township, which operate a joint emergency operations center, did not demonstrate that adequate protective measures could be taken to protect the health and safety of the public in the vicinity of the Peach Botton Atomic Power Station.
As a result of the remedial exercise conducted on April 10, 1985, Drumore and Little Britain Townships demonstrated an adequate capability to implement their offsite radiological emergency preparedness plans; and Fawn Grove Borough / Fawn Grove Township adequately activated their joint emergency operations center and implemented the offsite plans, thus eliminating the Category A deficiencies cited during the October 17, 1984, exercise.
Based on the results of the remedial exercise, offsite radiological emergency preparedness is now adequate to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of an accident at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. Robert S. Wilkerson, Chief, Technological Hazards Division, at 646-2861.
