near Edgemont, South Dakota, i

Sumary:

Representatives from Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc. and their

contractor HWS, Inc. presented the latest information on the progress of development of a proposed LLw disposal facility l

at Igloo, South Dakota, which is approximately 8 miles south of Edgemont.

i Discussed were the latest accomplishments in site selection and characterization, State, County, and Local government interaction, citizen involvement, the preliminary outline of the content of a license application and environmental report and Chem-Nuclear's proposed completion schedule for milestones. (See enclosure 2)

Significant accomplishments to point out are:

1) a study of the ecomomics of the facility was released during the week of January 16, 1984
2) site selection is nearly completed
3) ambitious schedule calls for submittal of license application to NRC on April 1, 1986.

Commitments Made:

1) Chem-Nuclear will give NRC a copy of the economic report just released.
2) NRC agrees to consider a meeting at Igloo, which Chem-Nuclear wishes to have within 2 to 3 weeks time.
