SUBJECT:

STRESS ANALYSIS OF NUPAC ENVIRALLOY FAMILY OF HICs In December 1984 your staff provided comments on a topical report dealing with the NuPac "Enviralloy Family' of high integrity containers. Those comments generally addressed Type A packaging requirements. However, as a result of our review of a separate report on NuPac's FL-50/EA-50 HIC, we have concluded that a more detailed review of the structural analyses for the Enviralloy Family (of 24 HICs) is in order. We should appreciate your assistance in that regard.

Because the Enviralloy Family report deals with 24 separate containers, we do not anticipate that this will be a trivial effort. As was discussed in a meeting (between Tim Johnson, Mike Tokar, Dan Huang, and you) in your office last week, however, the magnitude of the effort should be limited by the fact that (a) the analyses should be similar (although not identical) for all the designs, (b) the 24 HICs are grouped into a few types of classes, and (c)

Dan Huang conducted a similar-type review effort on the FL-50 HIC, and did an excellent job. Accordingly, we request Dan's assistance in reviewing the burial load stress / strain analyses for the Enviralloy Family report on a schedule commensurate with your other Branch work.

If it would be consistent with his other assignments, we would like to have Dan's input by July 1,1985.
