During the course of 'the investigation, three individuals asked to have 6
their nares withheld.frr,a disclosure.
The names of the three who asked for Monymity have been.daleted from the transcript of their interviews.
Ho premises were made' by the IE investigators about not releasing thra interview records._A copy of the trartscripts of all of the interviews made by IE during the investigstion has been sent to the NRC Public Document Room.
Oneofthethreeindkvidualswhoaskedanonymitymentionedknowledgeof thermocouple readings;of 4000 F.
This number was not contained in the IE Investigation Report, nor was'it specifically included by IE in any briefing, discussion, or memoranda to the Comissioners.
The number 4000'F was not, to the best of today's recollections, specifically discussed by the IE investigators present when the statement was mode, with the superYisors of the investigation or b.igher management.
The composite stateme$t.of the three IE investigators about their reaction to the 4000 F number is ns follow::.
1 1.
Only one of the individuals mentioned a temperature this high.
A general premiss'was not to include infomation unless it co'uld bc verified by at least one other source.
There were severai high ndmbers stated; 4000*F was the highest, but most i
of the highest numbers quoted were over 2000"F. The line of questioning was directed toward establishing when there was knowledge, and from what sources, that the core was uncovered.
A temperature.in excess of 2000*F (the highest value given in the report is 2620*F) was believed to be sufficient to establish core uncovery.,

2.
Infomation avaiieb}e at the site indicated that chromel almoel themocouples: were.not reliable byond' 2500'F. A handbook reference in IE Headquarters states that chromel alumel is not
.~ecomended for service beyond 2200*F.
3.
No conscious decision -w'as made to exclude specific reference to 4000 F; rather, the individual who prepared that section of g
the report believed that. the statements roada were sufficient t
to justify the conclusions drawn.
