Dear Dr. Murley,
in Reference (a), Commonwealth Edison (CECO) requested approval to use the 1989 Edition of ASME Section XI for the third ten year interval update of the Quad Cities Station Inservice Inspection (ISI) Program, in the Reference (b) teleconference, CECO and NRR discussed the basis for acceptability of this request. This Idter provides documentation of that basis.
Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50.55a (10CFR50.55a g(4)(lv))
provides guidance for the use of editions of the ASME Code which are subsequent to the required edition for a specific ISl program. This regulation states:
g(4) (iv)
Inservice examinations of components, tests of pumps and valves, and system pressure tests, may meet the requirements set forth in subsequent editions and addenda that are incorporated by reference in paragraph (b) of this section, subject to the limitations and modifications listed in paragraph (b of this section, and subject to Commission approval. Portions of e itions or addenda may be used provided that all related requirements of the respective editions or addenda are met.
