[External_Sender] Holtec HI- STORE Consolidated Interim Storage Facility Application Comment To Whom This May Concern, The United States one hundred operating and closed nuclear reactors have become a serious national problem. Over seventy thousand plus tons of high level radioactive waste is stored in thirty-four different states. Holtec International plans to bring it to the state that I live in.

The NRC and the DOE (tasked with regulating and licensing nuclear power plants and managing the radioactive waste they produce) despite a forty year window to do so, have made no permanent repository plan for this toxic waste. Such systemic short sightedness, gives me little reason to have faith that other aspects of this endeavor will be well thought out.

Holtec Internationals plan to create an interim high level nuclear waste dump near Eunice, NM.

would mean that rail cars and trucks with up to one hundred thousand metric tons of high level radioactive waste would travel through populated areas. Once this radioactive waste is transported across the country at great cost and risk to all the people along the transport route, there will be no political will or money to find a permanent storage site. And, if there were an accident or leak, Holtec International, an LLC, would not be held responsible for clean up or damages; leaving American taxpayers to pay the price.

Moreover this proposed site would create approximately fifty five permanent jobs, but destroy hundreds more in ranching, dairy and farming industries. This is immoral because it is economically short sighted, potentially disastrous and life threatening. This is our home.

Bringing this toxic waste to New Mexico is simply unacceptable.

Thank you for taking my concerns into consideration.

Respectfully, Dianne Schlies Albuquerque, NM
