Dear Mr. Denton:
The Reference transmitted changes to the Wolf Creek FSAR that were associated with containment sump flow calculations. These changes re-moved material inserted into the FSAR in Revision 13.
The Reference was submitted due to an overly conservative interpretation of the intent of Regulatory Guide 1.82 as compared to the sump flow information presented in Revision 13 of the FSAR.
This interpretation was made during a review of the flow velocities associated with the containment sumps in relation to an identified dis-crepancy with the inner screen mesh size of portions of the sumps. During discussions with NRC Region IV personnel, KG&E determined that an FSAR revision should be submitted for review by NRR prior to entering Mode 4.
Subsequent conversations with members of your staff confirmed this mis-interpretation. The purpose of this letter is to withdraw the changes transmitted by the Reference.
The information provided by Revision 13 accurately reflects the licensing commitments with respect to the design of the containment sumps. There-fore, the change identified by the Reference is not necessary and is hereby withdrawn.
