Dear Mr. Martin:
On behalf of myself as President and the other members of the Nebraska Public Power District Board of Directors, I wish to express our apprecia-tion for the time you gave the District in attending our Nuclear Committee meeting. The candid presentation of your perceptions or concerns relating to Cooper Nuclear Station provided confirmation of information conveyed to us regarding recent meetings by Mr. Schaufelberger and his staff.
In addition to meeting you, it was beneficial to understand how Region IV functions and interfaces with nuclear plant owners.
Let me assure you that NPPD is committed to operating one of the best and safest nuclear plants in the United States. The District has made many commitments for improvements, sometimes well ahead of others in the industry.
We are well aware of additional station enhancements we must address and feel that timely action will be taken as it relates to Cooper Nuclear Station.
Misunderstandings seem to have existed regarding NPPD Board actions as well as NRC actions. We believe misunderstandings between the District and NRC can be reduced with increased dialogue between yourself and Mr. Schaufel-berger which he has committed to do.
If at any time you or he feel a meeting with the members of the Board would be beneficial, we would request that a date for such a meeting be set up.
