RESPONSE TO INSPECTION REPORT 85-05 One item of noncompliance was identified in Inspection Report 50-255/85-05 dated March 20, 1985. The following is our response to this item:

Noncompliance 50-255/85-05-01 Technical Specification 4.2 Table 4.2.1 item 5 requires the Safety Injection Tanks to be sampled for boron concentration monthly.

Contrary to the above, the monthly sampling of the Safety Injection Tanks for boron, due on February 10, 1985, was not accomplished within the 31 day surveillance period plus the 25% grace period.

Corrective Action Taken and Results Achieved The Safety Injection Tank boron samples were completed prior to the discovery that the required surveillance interval had been exceeded. All samples indicated that a satisfactory boron concentration was present in the tanks.

The occurrence was identified during routine review of the completed surveillance test. The event was reported as required and submitted as Licensee Event Report 85-002. The occurrence was reviewed with supervisors in the department responsible for the error. The requirements associated with surveillance test performance were emphasized. The responsible department has enhanced the processing methods used to ensure tests are completed on schedule.
