a r,r k ENCLOSURE (li REPLY TO APPENDIX A OF NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-317/85-01; 50-318/85-01 We have reviewed the circumstances that led to the apparent violation of Technical Specification 6.12 referred to by the subject inspection report. This event was caused by a failure to barricade or conspicuously post a High Radiation Area located in the Unit 1 5' West Penetration Room. Accordingly, the corrective actions cited below have been implemented to ensure that similar violations will not occur in the future.
The area was immediately posted as a High Radiation Area by a Radiation Safety Technician.
The Supervisor, Radiation Control - Operations (SRC-0) inspected all similar area postings in the Controlled Area and discovered no additional problems.
Radiation Safety Technicians in the Radiation Control - Operations Unit were instructed on proper posting techniques and reviewed the violation on February 20, 1985. The SRC-O has also initiated action to control the removal and installation of scaffolding in the Controlled Area and to identify potential radiation safety problems by having a representative attend the daily Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Meetings. In addition, Radiation Safety Technicians regularly tour controlled areas providing additional effort to identify potential problems.
