M. Campbell of the Region 1 Office on March 26 through April 6, and April 9 through 20, 1985, of activities at our Braidwood Station as documented in Reference (a).

References (b) through (f) provided our initial and supplemental responses.

The supplement to this letter documents the current status of ongoing corrective actions and revises the expected date of full compliance.

This revision must be made due to certain construction considerations.

ENCLOSURE SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/84-05 AND 50-457/84-05 ITEM 456/85-05-08 AND 457/84-05-08 ITEM A - CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN AND RESULTS ACHIEVED The program for testing vendor supplied film for residual chemicals has been determined to be unfeasible.

Commonwealth Edison will perform a_100% wash and review program.

ENCLOSURE SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/84-05 AND 50-457/84-05 ITEM 456/84-05-05 AND 457/84-05-05 ITEM B - CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN AND RESULTS ACHIEVED Twenty-one (21) welds with base material indications produced by the Mechanical Contractor were previously identified.

The re-evaluation of these weld radiographs has been done by a Sargent & Lundy Level III with the following results:

Require U.T.

testing to verify internal reinforcement.

3 Repair / rework subsequent to Level III involvement.

No additional review required.

2 Reviewed by S&L Level III and accepted.

14 Film for weld is missing.

1 Total 20 One (1) weld package was determined not to have involved Level III review and was not re-evaluated.

This accounts for a total 20 radiographs reviewed.

For welds requiring internal reinforcement verification, the onsite Independent Testing Lab will perform ultrasonic thickness measurements of internal reinforcement.

Additional action taken will be based on results of these measurements.

A search is underway for the missing radiooraph film.

Should this film not be located the weld will be re-radiographed and evaluated.

ITEM B - DATE OF FULL COMPLIANCE Completion expected July 1, 1985.

ENCLOSURE SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE T0 INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/84-05 AND'50-457/84-05 ITEM 456/84-05-06 AND 457/84-05-06 ITEM C - CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN AND RESULTS ACHIEVED 1C & 2 Weld Nos. SI 14-FW 9 and SI 13-FW 15 R1 which correspond to Item of Noncompliance C, (1c) and (2) respectively, have not been reinspected to date.

Flushing operations have been curtailed and the system has been opened for draining.

Expected date of availability for radiograph'y is May 19, 1985.

Weld SI 14-FW 9 will be ultrasonically inspected and re-radiographed to determine required disposition / corrective actions.

Weld SI 13-FW 15 R-1 will be re-radiographed in the affected area to achieve densities that comply with ASME Section V, paragraph J-263.2.

If densities of the affected area can not be achieved, the area will be repaired and reinspected.

Upon determination of the condition of these welds, formal instruction to the Independent Testing Lab, and Mechanical Contractor will be given.

This instruction will include necessary instruction.in regards to Item of Noncompliance Ib.

ITEM C - DATE OF FULL COMPLIANCE

'1c & 2 Completion of additional testing, necessary repairs (if required) and necessary training it expected by August 1, 1985.
