March 29,1985 Mr. Thomas E. Murley, Regional Administrator U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406

Subject:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 and 2, Post Accident Sampling System Inoperable

Dear Sir:

On March 5,1985, the Post Accident Sampling System (P.A.S.S.) was declared inoperable and Action Statement 3.7.13a entered, consistent with the recently received Technical Specifications for this system.

The action required by 3.7.13a, if the system operability cannot be restored in 7 days, is to prepare and submit a Special Report to the Commission persuant to Specification 6.9.2.

The reason for the inoperability of the P.A.S.S. is the failure of the oxygen analyzer. The analyzer was removed from service for maintenance, thereby rendering the system inoperable.

Presently, the preplanned alternate method of processing samples is in effect.

The estimated date of returning the P.A.S.S. system to operation is April 15,1985, pending vendor parts and support.

Very ruspectfully, L.B. Russell Plant Superintendent LBR/pt egp2pob k7 S
