Docket No. 50-397 Mr. J. B. Martin, Regional Administrator U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region V 1450 Maria Lane, Suite 210 Walnut Creek, CA 94596 Document Control Desk U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, D.C.

Subject:
NUCLEAR PLANT N0. 2 RESPONSE TO NRC IE BULLETIN 84-03 REFUELING CAVITY WATER SEAL, CLARIFICATION
Reference:
Letter, G02-84-623/624, G. C. Sorensen (SS) to J. B. Martin (NRC), Same Subject, dated November 30, 1984 The attachment to the reference letter states, in addressing the NRC concern of makeup capacity, that a 120 gpm source of water can be supplied by Quality Class I fuel pool cooling pumps. This source is one of seven discussed.
In clarification, it should be noted that the fuel pool cooling pumps consist of a Quality Class I, Seismic I motor driving a Quality Class II pump currently being upgraded to Seismic Class I.
This clarification does not alter the conclusion provided in the attachment that "the ability to make up water in the reactor well and fuel pool is more than adequate to prevent fuel cladding damage".
Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. P. L. Powell, Manager, WNP-2 Licensing.
Very truly yours, and M A G. C. Sorensen, Manager Regulatory Programs l
