LASALLE COUNTY NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION N.P.D.E.S. PERMIT NO: IL0048151 NONCOMPLIANCE REPORT DISCHARGE NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION: No. 001(b) Sewage Treatment Plant Effluent PARAMETER AND PERMIT LIMIT: Fecal Coliform, 400 counts /100 ml NONCOMPLIANCE, DATE, AND DURATION: 733 counts /100 al, 13 MAR 85, unknown Resample 700 counts /100 al, 15 MAR 85, unknown CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:

The chlorine feeder at the Sewage Treatment Plant appeared to be operating properly. A free residual chlorine concentration of greater than 2 ppm was measured every day during the week of llMAR85. Results from a resample on 15 MAR 85 confirmed the initial analysis result. The cause of these excursions is suspected to be due to insufficient contact time between the Sewage Treatment Plant effluent and chlorine disinfectant. Although the samples exceeded the 400 count /100 ml limit, the Sewage Treatment Plant effluent to the lake probably did not.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Efforts will be made to sample the Sewage Treatment Plant effluent after there has been more contact time with the chlorine disinfectant.
