BRANCH Ivan kl. Smith, Chairman Administrative taw Judge Atomic Safety and ticensing Board U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington. D.C. 20555

Dear Chairman Smith:

I have received in. formation from a reliable source that the simulator installed at TMI for training and testing of operators has been undermined in its capabilities by the decisions of GPU Nuclear management in opposition to the advise of engineers assigned to that project. My informant has provided the name of an engineer who resigned because of GPU's action relative to the installation of the simulator and who would be able to provide information concerning the seriousness of alleged design changes. If the Board should have interest in this matter, which I believe that it should, the name of the engineer can be provided to clarify these allegations and to identify two other engineers who have also resigned because of the same concerns.

Very trulv yours, Cd/6tAWL S/6A/&

Marjorie M. Aamodt.
