SUBJECT:

Resignation of Dr. Brian Copcutt l 1

I regret to inform you that Dr. Brian Copeutt has resigned his position as Manager, Of fice of Radiation Safety, effective November 2, 1990. Dr. Copcutt's letter of resignation came following a meeting of NNRC management personnel which included Dr. Copcutt, Dr. Revsin and me. Two other similar meetings were held in the 1 past which included the same three individuals. The purpose of l these meetings was to establish dialogues and communications regarding urgent issues and to establish priorities regarding the workload. The discussions of the last meeting were recorded in a confidential memo to file but copies of this memo were given to Dr.

I Copcutt and Dr. Revsin. The memo is enclosed for your information.

The intent of the memo was to get Dr. Copcutt to join Dr.

Revsin and me in managing the Center with clear tasks to be accomplished on a tianely basis. Also, I felt that we must improve our productivity.

The memo was given to Dr. Copeutt on Friday, October 5, 1990.

On Monday, October 8, 1990 his letter of resignation was received.

I attempted to dissuade Brian from going through with his resignation, primarily because I felt that I could work with him to overcome problems. He was adamant. In fact, he stated that he planned to render his resignation some time ago. My memo to file apparently made the process easier.

Dr. Copeutt's resignation will be an agenda item at the next meeting of the Nuclear Safeguard Committee.
