!. low limployee:
-\\n arucle appeared in the Augast 9.1992 Beaver County Times entitled " Utility Employees Sue Cher Rat < ty stem" In that article, the at'orney for the plaintiffs alleged that " fear of low performance ratinp i as workers reluctant to report violations at tne Company's lleaver Valley Nuclear Power Plants.' ~1hese a
mns are not true and reponing violations are not related in any way to performance ratings.
i urthermore, these allegations are totally contrary to the Company's long stand.ing practices and pohcies a ; ec.Mshed in Nuclear Group Directive 1.2.7. This directive states, in part:
" Intimidation and/or harassment of personnel who perform verification inspections and Nuclear Regulatory Commission personnel or anLperson who reports or attempts to report a 8
safety defect will not be tolerated at Beaser Valley Power Station."
Anyone found to hase intimidated and/or harassed a nudear inspector will be subject to immediate disciphnary action, up to and including possible termination of employment."
"This policy does not supersede an individual's right to directly contact the NRC Resident luspector and or NF C effice."
fo further avoid situations where employees might feel intimidated about identifying safety defe:ts or violations, your Company established the Quality Concern Resolution Program (QCRPh where informanan relating to safety violations r..; be identitled to the Company anonymously. This program has been in place for five years.
In addition, federal law protects individuals who allege safety defects in nuclear facilities Your Company has gone to great lengths to create an atmosphere where safety concerns may be identified and promptly corrected without fear of retaliation. Allegaticas that such harassment takes plase when there is no evidence to support it is personally offenske. It is even more offensive when the furtherance of personal aims is usec by a few to create a chilling atmosphere in our organization that would attempt to destroy the open and honest relationship v.h!ch we have all tried so hard, for so many years, to attain. The t
Company pracaces and pohcies hase m no way bet n altered by such attempts.
