Gentlemen:

This is to inform you that Dr. Kwan S. Kwok has resigned his position as Superintendent of the MIT Research Reactor (License No R-37, Docket No. 50-20)-

effective 30 October 1992. Dr. Kwok has accepted a position at Sandia National '

Laboratories where he will be engaged in research on reactor powered spacecraft.

Dr. Kwok has been with the MIT Research Reactor (MITR II)in various capacities since >

1976 and his contributions have been invaluable. No decision has as yet been made on:

Dr.-Kwok's successor and, for the immediate future,1 (SOP-2709-6) will' assume the duties of 7 uperintendent. Fortunately, the MITR-II has a number or other individuals who possess the qualifications to. serve as Superintendent and several of these have had ,

experience as the Acting Superintendent while Dr. Kwok was either on travel or vacation. .

One or more of these individuals will 1 e assigned as an Assistant Superintendent with designated specific responsibilities. )

I Dr. Kwok will be appointed a Research Affiliate and will continue to be associated - l with the MIT Nuclear Reactor Laboratory. Accordingly, he will have need of his senior operator's license (SOP-3015-6,' Docket No. 55-5718) and it should be kept in effect.'
