Report Nos. 50-334/91-99 and 50-412/91-99 On September 25, 1992, a SALP meeting was held to djscuss the NRC SALP Board Assessment report for Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2.
The initial SALP report, dated August 23, 1992, assessed station activities for the period January 1, 1991 through June 13, 1992.
Attached are our comments concerning the report and our plans to improve performance as discussed at the SALP meeting.

Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 1 and 2 Renly to SALP Report NRC SALP Report No r,. 50-334/91-99 and 50-412/91-99 dated August 21, 1992 provided the initial SALP Board assnssment of activities at Beaver Valley Power Station, Units 1 and 2 for the period January 1,
1991 through June 13, 1992.
We concur with the strengths identified and will crntinue to work to maintain their superior levels of performance.
In response to the weaknesses identified in the Summary of Results on page 2,
a number of corrective actions have been taken during the SALP period.
It is recognized in the report that there was insufficient time for the NRC-to evaluate these
- actions, but improvements were noted.
Our corrective action plana include the following activities:
Operator License retraining was enhanced to address operator performance concerning ESF actuations.
A self-check program was initiated by the Maintenance Department, Instrument and Control section.
With positive results to date, it will be expanded to other operations and 3
Maintenance sections as appropriate.
Generic Letter 91-18 interim guidance on operabilit'/ N.d degraded conditions was-provided to our-staff soon after-ita publication.
A revision to our-incident reporting procedure is being issued to assure uniform address of plent operability or degraded conditions.
The procedure upgrade program is continuing with in-house resources assigned.
The_
motor operated valve maintenance program has been enhanced to assure compliance to Generic-Letter 89-10.
r Enhancements to our design engineering program have been.
initiated to address work _ load prioritization, project management and back log reduction and control.
System engineer positions-are being staffed and continue to assume a greater role in system analysis.

Other-initiatives will be. undertaken where appropriate to strengthen =
the performance deficiencies identified in the report.
