Dear Selin:
I am writing to express my disapproval of the proposal to store spent

nuclear fuel in VSC-24 storage casks at Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant here in Wisconsin. I have grave concerns about safety aspects of this plan and must tell you that your proposal finds little support among the people i
of Wisconsin.
I believe it is unwise to store dangerous radioactive materials in a cask that has never been built or tested. It also concerns me that these casks are 4
not transportable. In the absence of a permanent nuclear waste repository site, it would appear
- hat you intend to use these unproven casks as a permanent nuclear waste storage solution.
To my knowledge, no environmental impact study has been completed on the cask!;. There is no information in the proposal about whether the interior environment of the casks would be monituted during their use.
There have been no studies completed to measure long-term pressure buildup, long-term corrosion effects, neutron bombardment durability, or the impact of high burnup fuel on the casks.
Therefore, I don't believe the VSC-24 would be a suitable option for either long-or short-term storage at Point Beach. I thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look fonvard to your timely response.
