Operating License No. DpR-50 Docket No. 50-289
-Supplemental Response to NRC Bulletin 92-01: Failure of Thermo-Lag 330 Fire Barrier System to Maintain Cabling in Wide Trays and Small Cond'nts Free from Fire Damage The purpose of this letter is to supplement the information provided by THI-1 inLresponse to the subject bulletin as submitted on July 27, 1992. During the continuing review of Thermo-Lag 330 installations at TMI-1, two additional small' diameter, preformed firc barr'er envelopes located in IPSH-FZ-1 and
.IPU-FZ-2 were identified as being within the scope of the bulletin. As a result of. that saro effort, the envelope designated as item C in IPSH-FZ-2 in the_ initial-response was determined to be out of scope.
The omission of two envelopes during the initial review of-screer, house
' Thermo-Lar; 330 barrier material installations resulted because of the manner in whic'. the protection was listed.
ISPH-F7.-1 was previously listed because of ottcr Thermo-Lag 330 barrier materialinstallations located in the space.
ISPH-FZ-1 contains one of each.of the newly identified preformed installations.
The first installation ir,volvedlsmall cables protected with preformed material at the entry to a. splice box (where the protected cables terminated with
.Rockbestos Firezone-R cable). The cables have beco added to the list of
-circuits / envelopes subject to the concern of IEB t 31.
In the second installation, armored cables were routed in two
'l cable trays that were assumed to be boxed-in their entirety with Thermo-Lag 330 board.
During-field inspection, it was found that the boxing was discontinued on the horizontal run and the remainder of the cable was enveloped by <4" preformed material.

'd Document Control Desk C311-92-2111 Page 2 Similar configurations exist lfor cables serving the same function in area IPSH-FZ-2 of tne screen house'. As a result, the addition of area IPSH-FZ-2 to
-the listing of those areas containing Thermo-Lag 330 material subject to IEB 92-01~ concerns is appropriate.
Attachment I shows, in red, the physical locations af these barriers in the plant and lists the circuits / function being protected. The barrier locations and circuit / function 111etings_have been added to the fire pre-plans.
