Gentlemen:

On July 22, 102, via facsimile, TU Electric notified the NRC of a reportable defect concerning the CPSES Unit 2 Train

'B' emergency diesel generator main fuel oil booster pump.

Attached is the wri.en report which satisfies the reporting requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

The report has been formatted in a manner that corresponds to the specific information requested by subparts (i) through (viii) of paragraph 10Ci R50.55(e)(8) of the regulation.

This is exclusive of that portion of subpart (viii) regarding advice that has been or will be given to other entities outside of TV Electric.

Such advice would be dependent on the entities' specific use and operating /maini cance history of the subject components.

The basic component which contains a defect the CPSES Unit 2 Train

'B' diesel generator main fuel oil bec4ter pump.

(iii)

The f acility -is being constructed by Brown & Root for TV Electric.

A clear plastic ;torage t ag was found lodged in the main fue' oil booster pump on the Train

'B' emergency diesel generator, T. s pump-locked up. causing the taper pin in the engine-side coupling half to shear,.

c Loss of the main fuel oil booster pump could cause failure of the diesel generator to perform its safety function in case _of an accident.

This-failure to comply was identified and documented on June 15, 1992.

There-is one main fuel oil booster pumo on each of the two Unit 2 emergency diesel generators at CPSES.

/vii)

The fuel oil booster pump and coupling pin were replaced.and

- cleanliness was reestablished by an inspection.

Corrective action is complete.

(viii)L Unit I was informed of the Unit 2 defect, but the Unit 1 diesel generators have-a successful operating history with no foreign material of this type.

No evidence of this type of foreign

- material was found during the flushing program conducted-on Unit 2 Train

'A' diesel generator Therefore, it is concluded that this
