Georgia Power Company's (GPC) letter NED 84-641 dated December 28, 1984, provided a status of our. cable tray support verification program.

Additional details on the long term program for corrective action are provided herein.

The objective of the program is to verify that the seismic qualification of safety-related' cable-tray supports meets the requirements contained in the appropriate _ Plant Hatch Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR).

If a support can not be shown to meet these requirements, the support will be evaluated against the operability criteria included previously as an attachment to our letter NED 84-641 to determine reportability.

In addition, the support will be modified to meet FSAR criteria.

As indicated in letter NED 84-641, we have determined that a number of - supports do not presently meet FSAR requirements.. A modification schedule to bring these supports 'into ' compliance with the FSAR will be sent to you'by April 30, 1985.

20555 January 16, 1985 Page 2 To ensure that the remainder of the cable tray supports meet FSAR requirements, a program consisting of the following activities will be conducted:

1.

Walkdown -

A plant walkdown will be conducted by experienced engineers to identify cable tray supports most susceptible to load control issues. The identified cable tray supports will be analyzed and a modification schedule prepared for supports which do not meet FSAR criteria.

The identified supports which do not meet FSAR criteria will be evaluated against the operability criteria to determine reportability.

2.

Follow-On Walkdowns -

The results of the initial walkdown will be evaluated to identify other cable tray supports which may require investigation and to determine.the scope of following walkdowns.

Follow-on walkdowns will be conducted based on the results of the initial walkdown.

The identified cable tray supports from each walkdown will be analyzed and a modification schedule prepared after each walkdann to bring identified supports into compliance with the FSAR.

The results of each

- follow-on walkdown will be evaluated to determine the need for additional walkdowns.

A schedule for these activities is attached for your information. As each follow-on walkdown is completed, a modification schedule will be sent to you.

GPC affirms that all cable tray supports evaluated to date meet the operability criteria attached to letter NED 84-641.

We further believe the program to examine supports and the load tracking program presently in place will ensure that -all supports will be brought into compliance with the FSAR.

Yours very truly, W f f:=
