BALTIMORE OAS AND ELECTRIC CHARLES CENTER. P.O. BOX 1475 BALTIMORE, MARYLAND 21203 ELECTRIC ENGINEERING 3anuary 15,1985 DEPARTMENT Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. 3. R. Miller, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555
Subject:
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos.1 & 2; Dockets Nos. 50-317 and 50-318 TMI Action Plan Item II.B.3
Reference:
(a) Letter from A. E. Lundvall, Jr. to R. A. Clark, dated November 30,1982 Gentlemen:
The referenced document included a description of the methods employed by Baltimore Gas and Electric to satisfy the criteria of NUREG-0737 Item II.B.3.
Criterion 2(a) required that we establish the capability to quantify certain radionuclides that may be indicators of the degree of core damage. In our response to this criterion, we listed the radionuclides to be detected by the high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector of our post-accident sampling system. Unfortunately, the list included a typographical error, indicating that lanthanum-147 (instead of lanthanum-142) would be monitored.
Since lanthanum-147 emits. only
-particles, it will not be detected by an HPGe detector.
This error has been discussed with your staff, and this letter is provided to establish a written record of the correction.
Ve y truly yours, M. D. Patterson Senior Engineer Nuclear Licensing and Analysis Unit MDP/vf ~
